2016 - now The Marriage of Things

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Art, design, curiosities and vintage. Ever since the beginning of his artistry, Rogier Walrecht has found inspiration at flea markets and thrift shops. In many of his drawings, objects appear that he found there. The installed spaces in which his characters appear also arose from his love for the readymade. In his visual work, his finds, drawings, sculptures and installations come together in one gesammtkunstwerk.

2014 - 2015 Expressionism

Painting and sculpture based on individual experience and emotion that finds its full echo in expressionism from Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The detailed and mystical art of the Dark Ages. The European and American Pop Art from the 2nd half of the last century. These art movements mixed in the 21st century. They are sources of inspiration for Rogier Walrecht. For Rogier Walrecht, art is a quest to convey a feeling to his viewers with different techniques and media, so that the viewer is also inspired!

2010 - 2013 Colors in the water

Water is the symbol of chaos or the unconscious, the dark, unknown dimension of the mind. The I arises from the unconscious, as life arises from water. Contact with water (the unconscious) can bring about a renewal of the I-consciousness by bringing it into contact with aspects of the self that are repressed or dissociated. The feeling of freshness that immersion in water gives is the key to this symbolism. The human being who rises from the waters represents a form of consciousness that leads to connectedness, rather than separation.

2007 - 2009 The Journey

Inspired by a cycling trip with Joost Conijn and John Treffer through the Rif Mountains in Morocco, he makes several works. With his visual work and his performances in video, he thinks he has the components to work towards a sharpening of ideas and images. He expects that he will further develop the various fields of visual art into an obvious story with its own visual language. He discusses the possibilities that already exist, knowing that the field is less a sum of productions and more of experiments.

2004 - 2006 The Dog

The boundary on which the dog finds itself is the one between life and death, outside and inside, day and night, the conscious and subconscious. From wild predator to a vigilant pet, or on an inner level, the human instinct on the border between wild and tame, or the unconscious and consciousness. He appears at transitional stages and turning points in life—the points at which arrows change direction, despair turns to hope, poisoning to healing, and death to new life. The dog stands in the center and weighs sin against the truth, until balance is established.

2000 - 2003 Male Female

Rogier works around the theme of man/woman. He makes drawings of men and women, naked and clothed. Sometimes they are life-size, sometimes they are only the size of a hand. He is fascinated by both the physical and the psyche of people. He expresses this by contrasting human figures literally, but also figuratively. He places them in a world of his own, a self-invented context. He expands this 'story', which begins with drawing from reality, to imaginative scenes.

1995 - 1999 Archetypes

In his visual work, Rogier Walrecht works from a pseudo-religious theme in which an archetypal family of four biblical family members was presented (Father/God, Mother/Mary, 2 Twin Brothers/Jesus and the Devil). By placing the human figures/gods opposite each other, in an environment of utensils, in an empty space or nature, a tension arises between the different characters. The drawings are actually stories on a mystical basis in which the characters are subject to his direction.
